Supporting charities

At Zen, we are dedicated to making a positive impact in our local community. At the heart of our ethos is a deep-rooted belief in giving back. Each year, we proudly support a local charity, which is voted for by our people.

But that's not all, we also actively engage with local initiatives, events, and projects that contribute to the wellbeing and development of our community, helping to make a difference to the lives of those around us.

Giving something back

We're passionate about making a positive impact, which is why every member of our team receives two paid volunteering days each year to support causes that matter.

Last year (2024), we proudly supported Andy's Man Club, a charity dedicated to men's mental health. Our people got involved in a variety of activities, from raising awareness and fundraising to taking on physical challenges.

We believe that small actions, when multiplied, create meaningful change - and we're committed to continuing that journey with our local community.

Fundraising for local charities

Over the year we collectively raised an impressive £20,000, through our activities and Zen’s commitment to match the funds we raised.

This outstanding contribution demonstrates our commitment to supporting local charities and our passion for giving back.  Through volunteering efforts like these, we not only uplift those in need, but bring a sense of camaraderie and purpose among our people, reinforcing the values that define us as a business.

Supporting the causes that matter to us

At Zen, our purpose goes beyond providing brilliant broadband - it's about making a positive difference in people's lives. Every year, we ask our people to choose the charities closest to their hearts, and in 2024/25 we're proud to stand behind two truly inspiring organisations: Springhill Hospice and the Children's Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT).

These charities reflect the compassion, community spirit and care that are at the heart of Zen. Whether it's supporting families through the toughest of times or creating moments of joy for children who need them most, their missions resonate deeply with us. And when our people step up to raise funds, we match their efforts - doubling the impact and helping these charities do even more of what they do best.

The Three Peaks Challenge 2025

In July, 26 Zen volunteers set out to complete the Three Peaks Challenge in support of our charity partners, Springhill Hospice and The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT). Over three days, the team scaled the highest peaks in Scotland, England, and Wales—Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon. This was no small feat, and together they raised an incredible £9,980 for two causes close to our hearts.

Volunteering with Rochdale in Bloom - Castleton Station refresh

Just a short walk from Zen’s office, our team joined forces with Rochdale in Bloom to give Castleton Station a spring makeover.

Together, we cleared and tidied the wooden planters on the platforms, giving them a fresh coat of varnish, as well as supporting local schools to plant flowers to brighten things up for summer. It was a fantastic opportunity to work alongside teachers and young gardeners while continuing to make a positive impact in the community.

Volunteering

One of our four core values is Building Communities - Together we make an impact. This value comes to life through our commitment to giving back, which is why every member of our team receives two paid volunteering days each year.

We champion and support local causes, charities and initiatives that matter. Whether it's painting a community centre, tidying up local gardens and community areas, or even sleeping out and taking on the three peaks to raise funds for our chosen charity - if it helps the community, we're proud to get involved.

By creating a truly inclusive workplace where everyone belongs and feels empowered to make a difference, we create an environment where people can thrive. Through collective action, shared purpose and compassion, Building Communities isn't just a value - it's something we live every day.

By creating a culture of compassion and social responsibility, we not only strengthen our connection to the communities we serve, but also embody the values that define Zen as a socially conscious and purpose-driven business. Check out some of our volunteering pictures below.
